agreeable rambles under the cut.
from ex-eastern block with a bit over critical parents and really niche interest and close to non english knowedge when i started using the internet got me to explore a lot. And some might have been mistakes and some might have been better to not see but for those 2-5 fics buried deep down under the mainstream it was worth it. Those comics with absolutely no written context cause i don't speak the language but the composition and the art and the vibes got what i craved did worth it. was it something that went absolutely against my moral code? maybe, but maybe i was already morbidly curious how else can be things interpreted, how do people try to connect with the same fiction i enjoy. and yes most of the time it's starkly different, the level of thirst, or shipping or crave for sexuality are on a daily basis too high for my taste. yet, if i want to find that wonderfully characterised, amazingly composed standoffs and breathtaking art i have to accept that the discovery leads through tons and tons of art-fic-rambling and ideas that are not for me.
occasionally still browse pixiv with a huff and just hop from art to artist cause it's a short cut even with the tags and all. maybe it's the minority mind set apathy that got me here (fandoms sure love to forget canonical female characters and their perfectly good story lines if they can instead just draw them as a blank to swap around with the most basic self-insert and oc) (also this whole second language made the cringe close to non-existent when i read in english. it comes back 10th fold when i try it in my mothertounge - it's just the easiest critical bar: would this be worth the printing cost of a book? yes? - it's good fiction regardless if it's fanfiction. no? - at least you don't try to sell it, good for you to find creativity and the courage to share it. )
maybe i'm just avoid the conflict cause fandom spaces are still not exactly a community 'feeling' or experience for me. maybe this cautious silent 'better to keep the judgment to myself' mentality keeps me from really connecting cause i still feel the cringe, when i think in my own language, when i have to return to the reality all these fandom spaces let me escape from. and i know i'm harsh critic. I was raised to be and i tought myself to be. So it all just comes back to the basic question - who did you create this for?
yourself? that's okay, maybe even good, maybe you're on a journey and these stories, ideas help you.
others? that's okay, the internet is endless, some day a little drifting tag will land those people who can appreciate it.
for art's sake? oh sweetie. get some rest.
people get angry when they care, people get nervous and shout when they feel. that's okay.
but please learn the true value of what is worth your anger and what is worth your time. i might be apathetic towards all the fandom stuff cause i don't think they matter as much as creating something new. Don't get me wrong, i envy everyone who has the courage to post anything fandom related. And as i said there are some absolutely marvelous works here that could be easily sold as classics. But it's fan-creation for a reason. If you want to create and be absolutely invested in it do it. Do something for yourself and for art's sake. Then you won't have the energy to get upset by mischaracterization of your favorite blorbo from a show written 50+ years ago that is probably heavily misportrayed already.
I mean I think people should curate their own fandom experience and whatnot and it's perfectly fair to just avoid things one is uncomfortable with...
That being said. From personal experience? Immunizing myself to all my discomforts by browsing through pixiv and kink memes with raised eyebrows while searching for things I am interested in back when tagging was non-existent has really made my fandom experience much more pleasant nowadays.
I have preferences, for sure. But I have no fear. I have no cringe. The filthiest, grossest fanwork holds no powers over me. I am a god.
Like honestly dl;dr and block on sight is respectable and all but I genuinely think everyone could just benefit from purposefully exposing yourself to your nOTP and non-triggering squicks sometimes? (And obviously don't go bother the creators for it.) If only so that it makes it easier/safer to search for content you like without living in fear of accidentally glimpsing something you hate and having that ruin your day.

One massive, legitimate way to improve as a writer or artist or in any creative endeavor really, is to become absolutely obsessed with something and to allow yourself to be weird about it. Genuinely mean this btw.

SO Warner Bros just announced their new LotR movies, one of which is called The Hunt for Gollum.
There are two old, fairly well-known and high-quality Tolkien fan short films called The Hunt for Gollum and Born of Hope.
The Hunt for Gollum, which had accrued 13 million views on Youtube over its lifetime, released May 9 2009;
Born of Hope released shortly afterward on December 12 2009 and has accrued 50 million views on Youtube.
Tumblr media
WB just got it removed.
They fucking filed a copyright claim on the 15 year old fan film whose name and plot they reused for their own film. They did this within the past 24 hours, after some reporting pointed out the fan film and generated a bit more buzz for it.
Tumblr media
Born of Hope remains up, but given there is a second Warner Bros LotR movie with an unnanounced title, I'd bet money on it also being an Aragorn origin story and they'll strike Born of Hope next year.
Also, given the new WB film is apparently only now starting production and is supposed to release in 2026, it will have 1-1.5 years of production time, which is less production time than the 50 minute fan film.
The original LotR trilogy had nearly 3 years of production time, not including finishing the second two in the proceeding 3 years after filming them all together.

How do you feel about people binding personal copies of your works?
I have been reading Lof, and you are such an amazing writer that it blows my mind. When Lof is eventually finished, I would absolutely love to (with permission and loads of credit to you) bind a hardcover copy for personal reading . Reading through this fic has been such an emotional journey and I would love to be able to hold a physical copy. I was also thinking about incorporating some of the beautiful art you've done of the story into the pages of a book, that way the art was next to the scene you were reading. Again to be super clear this would just be something I'd make for myself to read, no monetary gain and tons of credit to you for the story and art!
Completely understandable whatever your answer may be, just wanted to ask your thoughts and let you know how much I've loved your writing!!
yeah that's perfectly fine!! i'm so glad you love LoF enough to do something as sweet as this, that's so amazing to me!! i'm fine with people binding their own copies for personal use- as long as no one is trying to use websites that could get LoF into trouble (i.e. trying to sell it, or paying for it, etc) then it's all cool with me!

Idk if anyone's played around with this idea but post-AGIT clone-body Dan visits Amity Park where Dash mistakes him for the real Danny and tries to bully him
which is a huge mistake
because Dan happily gives him the thrashing of a lifetime and strolls away in a really good mood.
Dash tries to blame Danny but no one believes him because Danny Fenton, being able to beat up Dash Baxter?? You've seen how small that kid is right? Dash stop messing around, you got hurt doing something super embarrassing or illegal didn't you? Come on man what was the actual thing you did come on you probably realize that saying Fenton beat you up makes you look worse than whatever thing you probably did right?
Cue Dash trying to prove that Danny is secretly stronger than he actually is, only to be foiled at every turn because Danny and friends caught on to what he's trying to do. Maybe Vlad foils him too cause Dan is supposed to be his responsibility and it was Dan who got Danny into this mess to begin with.
Eventually Dan lets Dash see him with Danny, they explain that Dan is his cousin, but also so Dash doesn't go back to bullying Danny he tells Dash that if he ever touches his cousin again Dan will have to take a hand as recompense.
Dash never bothers Danny again. Maybe he gets to go on a redemption arc where he realizes how trash he's been to everyone below him on the social pecking order and how much those teens hate his guts for it and decides that he wants to change. idk. But he stops harassing Danny.

Research Study: Fandom & Generative AI still looking for participants!
I'm still recruiting research participants for my PhD dissertation study!!! If you've already participated, thanks so much! If you haven't participated yet, please consider responding to a quick survey, and sharing with your friends!
I'm interested in understanding fans' perspectives on and experiences with generative AI (text and image generation software). That means perceptions both positive and negative! However you feel about genAI, I'm interested in hearing from you. We're especially seeking diverse perspectives from underrepresented demographic groups of people.
If you're over 18, can speak/understand English, and are interested in participating you can learn more information and take the survey here. I've also made a FAQ post about the study that I've pinned to the top of the blog, and you can see more info on the shareable flyer below. You can also view posts on Twitter/X, Bluesky, and Reddit about the study and share info there! Spreading the word is greatly appreciated :)
Tumblr media
The study is anonymous and voluntary, and you'll be asked about your fandom background, attitudes towards generative AI, and demographic information. The survey should take about 15-20 minutes, and you can skip over any questions you want. You can also elect to participate in a follow up interview, if you want to. The full details are on the consent form, which you'll be able to read before taking the survey! Feel free to reach out with any questions.

When your love interest has powers that he can’t control when he feels strong emotions… well can be pretty a mess.

I wanted to try a less complicated style for the lineart, and I really like it! For the colouring I tried but it ended more elaborated than I established lmao

Besides buying a game a second time, how can players show support to a developer or studio? How do those other ways compare to simply buying the game again?
Tumblr media
Spend money on paid DLC and microtransactions if they have any.
Talk to your friends about the game
Post about the game and any new content that comes out on social media.
Engage with fan and official posts on social media.
Leave a user review of the game.
Draw and post fan art and/or fan fiction.
Make and post cosplay.
Play the game a lot
Basically, what every dev is looking for are players who will spend on the game and players who will continue to engage with the game content outside of the game itself. The more people the game can reach organically, the more likely they'll get more players, more paying players, and more overall success.
PS. Conversely, if you want to do your part to kill a game, just don't engage with it at all. Let it rot, pay it no mind, and don't engage with it even if you hate it. Hate posting is still engagement. The only way to win is not to play at all.

as true as the jokes about “everyone wants to rewrite ninjago” are i feel like smthn people forget when complaining about the inconsistencies of the show is that…. it wasn’t planned? it’s not like most other animated shows lately - it didn’t start with a deeply fleshed out world or a meticulously designed pitch bible with grandiose plans for a long-term story or character arcs. the ninja don’t originally get their powers from heredity because they weren’t hereditary powers yet. the magic system doesn’t make sense bc they literally just made it up as they went! they go back and forth on stuff like whether non-elementals can learn spinjitzu bc it’s a collaborative piece of media made by people with vastly different levels of control over the story, the animation, the sets, etc. that varied over the course of the series. it’s totally understandable and exciting to see so many people reworking the early stuff with the lore and logic later seasons introduced but i personally feel that… if you’re doing that. you need to understand why the show is like that instead of writing it off as being bad and shitty. it was working with what it had. it’s only what it is now because of that awkward troubleshooting phase, not in spite of it
#ninjago#text✨#you’re 100% allowed to criticize the show but i keep seeing people complain about the inconsistencies about like. their parents giving them#their powers especially. like yeah cool that wasn’t a thing yet? they have different origins than the non-core elementals#because in the real world that idea hadn’t even crossed their minds yet! the original story was a more traditional fantasy narrative of#normal people rising to the occasion and *gaining* powers through their own feats. the fact that they changed it later doesn’t mean#it was necessarily bad to begin with or that it’s something that should be mocked#idk just. there’s a lot of hostility in some circles about this stuff and it makes me kinda sad. enjoy the complexity of production and how#series adapt over time. it’s part of why the show is so interesting to me#that essay i wrote had a whole bit juxtaposing the attitudes about technology in rebooted and prime empire and how they reflect greater#cultural trends between 2013 and 2021. it’s SUPER interesting and yet a lot of people only talk about it to make fun of how ‘bad’ it was :(#this isnt to say i don’t enjoy some of the retcons. the changes to their meetings with wu in s8 are genuinely really interesting! i love the#changes to cole’s backstory. i think his mom makes him in the early seasons even better! i’m just saying.. be respectful? nobody *tries* to#make a bad show. ages and ages of time and dedication were put into what ends up on your screens. it’s all human love and creation.#as goofy as it is#okay sry got all anthropology there but hm. been thinking about this for a while. apologies for being the local annoying early seasons fan

One of my hotter takes is that putting media criticism on one side and fan creation on the other as completely different activities, where one is intellectual and nourishing and engaged even if a little dry and joyless and mean and soul-killing at times, and the other is indulgent and vapid and meaningless but also joyful and emotionally fulfilling, is kind of weird and sells both disciplines completely short of what they are, which is a pretty obvious extension of each other.
No, I can't just "remove copyrighted stuff" from my stuff so I can sell it and it suddenly has worthwhile value. I am talking about copyrighted stuff through creation! It is critique! It is conversation! It is celebration! To remove this essential context would be making the entire endeavor meaningless then! aa

i mean obviously i still have a WHILE to go, but!!! i am well-established at this point. i love individual character playlists AND ship playlists! i love playlists that are “fox mulder would certainly listen to these songs” and playlists that are “these songs are literally about MSR and Phoebe Bridgers CLEARLY was watching season 3 when she penned this"

so has anyone figured out WHY there is the Need To Share our Artworks™ or is it just the vibes and our Soul apparently
#ive been running on “two cakes. u aren't BOTHERING people by putting art on their feed they can scroll past it/if they dont they get ”cake“”#and we love “cake”#“cake” is picture on the internet in this case#like okay the contracts and transaction format is a me problem!! i need to get rid of the “utilitarian brain worms” bc they're boring#this is supposed to be a hobby and the “get a good grade in hobby” wolf in the brain is just crying bc that's how they understand the world#the “get a good grade in x” wolf has valid pain but needs to stop controlling my life because they don't need to earn “enough value to live”#ect ect ect#and the life of minmaxxed utility is a life of trying to appeal to a “correct” that doesn't exist yaddi yadda = boring#i love you wolf. also shut up. affectionate. concerned. you get it#ok so we remove tangible purpose from act of experience art because THAT'S not “the point”#because “the point” is the joy killer eccetera ecc#but then what? “here check out this labor of love. i drew this fucker 15 times. no there's no story* there it's just a guy”#*story in this case being an emotional engagement/a situation/a context in which to ponder/other#so it's just a Draw. no further analysis. what do others Get from that?#i know i deeply enjoy art because im a fan of the process of People Making Stuff. i love when there was nothing but now there's something!!!#THAT'S what's it all about!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to me!!!! right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#so it stands to reason that creation is purpose enough?? to be experienced???? to be known????????#idk!!#this is a nothing burger of a thought people have always liked picture on the internet stfu maiora there doesn't need to be a reason#this is just the brainworms talking!!! because god forbid “something not have a purpose”??? blegh!!!!!!!!#sounds like unhealthy rationalizing instead of letting things be out of The Fear™!!sounds like depraving urself from joy bc of BRAINWORMS!!!#so like!!!!! picture on the internet doesn't NEED inherent value. creation is enough!! (plus there's the Attachment to Character. also.)#but then why are YOU *points at you* here? gen q!!#i made an image you like and now you are reading my word babble in some tags!!! what's THAT all about???????????#it's INTERESTING!! do you see what im trying to get at??#is it empathy??? person made something other saw something other made- other2other connection???? intrigue????????#.......all this is probably explained in some book or yt essay somewhere. oh well.#in the meantime thank you for your time! we can pretend we were stuck in an elevator together and then i started rambling#i hope you have a great rest of your day thanks for stopping by!! <3#maiora garrulates

Doctor Who is a story where humans make themselves gods, become myths staining the tapestries of the universe, and the last member of a race of gods is made human, cowardly and vulnerable and kind in a way no other god would dare make themselves and this is the very thing that allows the god-made-human to survive and even win at the end of the day (and the very thing that often dooms the humans-made-gods)
